Reports to: Vice President, Communications and Knowledge Exchange

 

Overall Responsibilities:

 

MSH is searching for a Director of Knowledge Exchange to set and lead the organization’s strategy and implementation efforts for organizational learning and knowledge management. The Director will work to achieve MSH’s knowledge exchange objective of leveraging our knowledge assets for greater health impact by capturing, synthesizing, sharing and applying best practices throughout the organization each day. The Director and his/her staff of five will work closely with the Management Team, our Chiefs of Party, Project Directors, monitoring and evaluation staff, and the Director of Strategic Communications to achieve these objectives.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  1. Build a user-centered knowledge and learning infrastructure and include clients/donors as knowledge exchange partners.
  2. Align and integrate diverse groups and functions in order to leverage knowledge exchange strategically across the entire organization and among our donors and clients.
  3. Establish and promote fundamental information standards, capture and share best practices/approaches, and promote the adoption and use of working communities of practice/purpose within MSH.
  4. Develop the measurements and standards to ensure compliance, to support continuous quantifiable productivity of knowledge exchange efforts and to determine their strategic outcomes.
  5. Work with our international health projects and proposal teams to develop and implement practical, best in class knowledge management solutions.
  6. Identify attitudes and practices characteristic of learning organizations. Establish and promote fundamental standards throughout the organization.
  7. Oversee the design, development and implementation of MSH’s blended learning programs and organizational training materials. Ensure that all programs are effective, engaging, and promote a culture of organization learning and knowledge exchange.
  8. Work with our international health experts and project teams to develop and implement practical, best in class learning solutions for adult learners in developing nations. Enhance and strengthen MSH’s leadership position in this area.
  9. Work in collaboration with the Unit heads in the development, implementation, and management of an annual training and staff development curriculum.
  10. Lead the development of sustainable outsourcing strategy for key areas of expertise. Identify and oversee an external stable of leading outside instructional design firms and specialist.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Master degree or equivalent experience in organizational learning, knowledge management, international development, or related field.
  2. Progressive experience in a leadership role changing the behavior of an organization and creating a culture of knowledge exchange and learning. (10+ years)
  3. Proven experience developing programs in learning and development curriculum for diverse cross functional groups and multi-lingual/global projects in low technology countries.
  4. Proven experience in using social learning and Web 2.0 approaches in knowledge exchange.
  5. French and/or Spanish language preferred.
  6. Experience working on proposal teams a plus.
  7. The ability to work with and influence senior colleagues.
  8. Strong financial and human resource management skills.
  9. Excellent communication skills (written & oral).
  10. Fundamental understanding of information content and associated issues.
  11. An in-depth appreciation of IT and its utilization.
  12. Team building leadership and motivation skills.
